(1837-42) C. Bechtler $2.50 Gold MS 67 GR, 21C, K-10 Values

Details

The 21-carat product line was Christopher Bechtler’s last innovation, issued sometime after the summer of 1836. In the Kagin-10 pairing, the shared reverse frequently appears with three radial cracks. Two examples examined by the author appear to be from the die’s terminal state, exhibiting a large cud at 2:00 on the reverse. There are somewhere around 30 known examples, with a handful of mint state specimens, one of which – in the terminal die state - is choice BU.
