(1835-37) C. Bechtler One Dollar Gold MS 28 GR, Center, Reeded Edge, K-3 Values

Details

Bechtler appears to have been sensitive to the needs of his clientele. Sometime in 1835, he issued a new series of coins with fineness of both 20 carats (CAROLINA GOLD) and 22 carats (GEORGIA GOLD). While engraving this new product line, he replaced the gold dollar obverse die, centering the “28.G.” This variety seems to have been issued for around a year. It is scarce, with only 35 examples known.

Obverse: 28.G (centered) CBECHTLER.RUTHERF:

Reverse: ONE N:CAROLINA GOLD DOLLAR.
