Obverse: On the bronze-aluminum center, the national coat of arms with the eagle facing left, its feathers resembling plates of armor. On the stainless-steel ring, the legend ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS above, with a half-wreath of oak and laurel below.

Reverse: On the bronze-aluminum center, the denomination N$5 with large 5; to the left of the top of the 5, the date; to the right, the mintmark M. On the outer ring, a depiction of the Anillo de las Serpientes (Ring of Serpents) on the Aztec Calendar Stone.
