The legend ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS surrounds, with CINCO PESOS below the spray. To the left of the spray, PESO above the coin’s weight (in grams), 27 ª 6; to the right of the spray, fineness LEY / 0.720. At the bottom, the mintmark Mo and 1953.
Reverse: Slightly to right of center, a bust of Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla in three-quarter profile; in the background to the left, the Parroquia de Nuestra Señora de Dolores (“Parish Church of Our Lady of Sorrows”). At the top, A«O DE HIDALGO (“Year of Hidalgo”); above the church, 1753 / 1953.
