1880-CC 8/Low 7 One Dollar MS Values

Details

Featuring the reverse style (rounded breast) of 1879, the 1880-CC 8 Over Low 7 is a popular variety that many Morgan dollar enthusiasts chase down, and it is a relatively common example of an 1880-CC variety. The Low 7 variety is distinguishable from the High 7 by looking for the location of the ghostlike remnants of the 7 in and around the second numeral 8 in the date. With the Low 7, the horizontal bar at the top of the 7 is seen consuming much of the inner, upper loop of the 8 and extending much farther down below the 8 than is seen with the High 7. The Low 7 is available in all grade levels through mid-Gem range including MS66, though becomes rare above that point. PLs and DMPLs are significantly scarcer still, though can be obtained in Gem levels for a price.
