1879-S GSA Hoard, Reverse of 1878 One Dollar MS Values
Details
The 1879-S Morgan dollar bearing the reverse of 1879 is found among some of the GSA Hoard dollars. However, only a relatively small number of 1879-S Morgan dollars were sold in GSA plastic as the bulk of these coins represent the Carson City Mint. Some are circulated and others uncirculated, and this date can be found in either soft packs or hard packs. As with any of the other GSA Morgan dollars, the 1879-S is relatively rare in the PL and DMPL levels.
This coin is made of 90% silver; 10% copper and has a current melt value of $67.24
Obverse: Portrait of Liberty centered. On the left are found 7 stars with the words E*PLURIBUS*UNUM followed by 6 stars on the right. The date is positioned at the bottom.
Reverse: The heraldic eagle is centered holding a bunch of arrows and branch surrounded by and olive leaves. The words UNITED STATES OF AMERICA * ONE DOLLAR frame the periphery. Mint mark, if any, appears above the letters DO of DOLLAR.
