1852 Humbert 50 Dollar Gold MS Target Rev, 887 THOUS, Reeded Edge, K-11 Values

Details

The Kagin-11 Humbert $50 appears to be the earliest coin struck by the Assay Office in 1852. These slugs were issued between the New Year and mid-February, when Curtis, Perry & Ward officially took charge of Moffat & Company and removed Augustus Humbert’s name from all United States Assay Office issues. It is the among scarcest varieties of Reeded Edge slug, with only around 75 examples in private hands. Three or four mint state examples are known today, and an original choice AU would be considered a candidate for the condition census.
