1851-(O) Restrike One Dollar PR Struck over O-Mint Values

Details

A fascinating and unique rarity created when a single proof 1851 dollar was struck over a previously-struck 1851-O Seated dollar. The previously features of the 1851 were mostly obliterated during the second strike, but the remains of the O mint mark are still faint but clear, thus creating a unique, rare coin.

up This coin is made of 90% silver; 10% copper and has a current melt value of $67.34

Obverse: Lady Liberty is seated on a rock bearing a shield with the word LIBERTY. 13 stars appear on the periphery. The date is centered at the bottom middle.

Reverse: The heraldic eagle is centered in the design with the words UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and ONE DOL. around the periphery. The mint mark appears very faintly under the eagle.
