Details

The second variety of Massachusetts & California Half Eagle is struck using an obverse die with the two uppermost stars touching the arrow, and a reverse die with only 15 berries on the wreath. The only known specimen was sold in the Lawrence Sale in 1929.

Obverse: Vaquero surmounted by an arm holding an arrow with a bear and stag on either side above a ribbon inscribed ALTA, 13 stars around

Reverse: FIVE D. wreath with 15 berries around MASSACHUSETTS & CALIFORNIA CO. 1849
