1792 Copper Pattern Half Disme MS BN J-8 Values

Details

This is the famous silver half disme of 1792. The quantity struck is not known, and a popular estimate seems to be about 1,500 to 2,000. These pieces circulated widely as regular issues and today most exhibit wear, often extensive, with more than just a few in such grades as AG-3, G-4, to VG-8, often with a few marks or dents. Higher-grade pieces are seen on occasion, in EF, AU, and, rarely, Mint State.

Obverse: Female head facing left, in the general style of the Birch cents and probably by the same engraver. Inscription LIB. PAR. OF SCIENCE & INDUSTRY around, 1792 below portrait.

Reverse: Eagle in flight with outstretched wings head toward top of coin, tail below. UNI. STATES OF AMERICA around, HALF DISME below.
