Stack’s Bowers Galleries is excited to announce that the Bay of Bengal Collection of Rare Ceylon Paper Money will be offered in their May 2026 Maastricht Auction. The collection features several iconic specimens from different issues and has been privately held for quite some time.

The firm’s Director of World Paper, Aris Maragoudakis, commented: “Being trusted with the sale of these notes is not something we take lightly. There are treasures like the 1947 10,000 Rupees that collectors have never had the opportunity to see in person, let alone the chance to take home from an auction. There are also a number of other rarities that will surely excite the collecting community.”

In addition to the 10,000 Rupees, there are two 1941 1000 Rupees notes, one a true specimen, the other with the CNP stamping in the watermark panel; a 1918 1000 Rupees specimen, and a 1934 1000 Rupees specimen. Other rare notes include a coveted 1891 50 Rupees specimen and a 50 Rupees specimen from 1936.

The Bay of Bengal Collection will be featured alongside many marquee collections in the firm’s Maastricht Auction, which is held in conjunction with the MIF Paper Money Fair. These include the Olive Sprig Collection of Palestine Paper Money, the William J. Pardee Collection, The Tiber Collection, and the My Canh Collection of French Indochina Paper Money.
