The only currently approved commemorative coin program for 2027 will offer gold $5 coins, silver dollars and clad half dollars to benefit America’s Vet Dogs. Public Law 118-109 was signed into law by President Joe Biden on November 25, 2024.
The Commission of Fine Arts reviewed proposed designs on February 19. Each denomination will direct a focus on a particular aspect of a working dog’s duties, including service, police and military and therapy. The designs were forwarded to the Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee for their review on February 24.
Each design was approved by the panel with recommended changes to include removal of some design elements and other alterations that would be more conducive to the small size of the coin.

For the gold coin (shown above), panelists preferred an obverse featuring a profile of a dog with the words “Unconditional Support” while the reverse would picture the subject dog performing a task of retrieval. Other selected designs for the silver dollar and clad half dollar featured various breeds to symbolize the diversity of dogs in the programs.
Upon approval, the coins will be minted and sold for a one-year period beginning in January 2027. The final decision will be made by the Secretary of the Treasury.
